Abstract
    This talk presents the recent advances in reducing the power consumption of wireless transceivers, especially in wireless sensor, body-area and personal area network (WSN, WBAN and WPAN) applications. To minimize power dissipation, the transceivers need to be built from ground up with the optimal architecture and circuit choices. Various radio implementations such as RF energy detection, direct-conversion, super-regenerative and direct-modulation front-ends are discussed. New circuit and system techniques which enhance these radio architectures are presented. Three circuit examples will be studied and compared to the state-of-the-art low power implementations.


Speaker information
    Dr. Xiongchuan Huang received the B.Sc. degree in Microelectronics from Fudan University, Shanghai, China in 2005, and the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Microelectronics, both with cum laude honors (less than 5%) from Delft University of Technology, Delft, the Netherlands in 2008 and 2014, respectively.


    In 2007, he worked in Philips Research, Eindhoven, the Netherlands as a student trainee. From 2008 on, he has been working in imec – Holst Centre in Eindhoven, where he is now a senior researcher. He has also been the supervisor for several MSc students from Delft University of Technology and Eindhoven University of Technology. Between 2011 and 2014, he was working part-time in Delft University of Technology as a PhD researcher.


    He has published more than 20 international journal and conference papers on the International Solid-State Circuit Conference (ISSCC), the European Solid-State Circuits Conference (ESSCIRC), the Journal of Solid-State Circuits (JSSC), the Transaction on Circuits and Systems (TCAS) etc. His research interests are ultra-low power circuit and system design for radio communications. Dr. Huang serves as reviewers for various journals and conferences in the field of IC design, including ISSCC, JSSC, TCAS and so on.


    黄雄川博士2005年毕业于复旦大学微电子学系,2008年及2014年获得荷兰代尔夫特理工大学(Delft University of Technology)硕士及博士学位,均被授予优等毕业生荣誉(前百分之五)。2007年至2008年在荷兰皇家飞利浦研究院从事60GHz无线前端电路的研究,2008年至今在imec微电子研究中心从事超低功耗无线芯片研究,现任资深研究员,并兼任代尔夫特理工大学和埃因霍温理工大学(Eindhoven University of Technology)硕士生导师。2011年至2014年兼任代尔夫特理工大学博士研究员。


    黄雄川博士长期从事射频集成电路的研发工作,领导并参与多项短距离无线电收发机的设计。近期的主要工作是2.4GHz低功耗蓝牙收发机,900MHz低功耗Zigbee芯片设计,以及400MHz无线体感网络芯片设计。黄雄川博士在国际IC领域最前沿的会议和期刊上发表有20余篇论文,其中包括7篇国际固态电路会议(ISSCC),2篇固态电路期刊(JSSC)等等。黄雄川博士是IEEE多个会议以及期刊的评审人,包括ISSCC,JSSC,TCAS等等。
